Since its inception in year 1978 under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 with Secretariat at the Department of Hydrology, then University of Roorkee(now I.I.T, Roorkee), the IAH has extended its activities in many folds including increase of number of members, which is now more than 2000 under different categories namely; Life member, Fellow member, and Institutional members. Until year 1996, the Secretariat of IAH was with the Department of Hydrology.
