General note | Panchakarma is a bio-cleansing regimen comprising of five procedures, which facilitate better bioavailability of the pharmacological therapies, help to bring about homeostasis of body humors, eliminate disease-causing complexes from the body and check the recurrence and progression of disease. <br/>The Central Council for Research in Ayurveda and Siddha, Ministry of Health and family Welfare, Government of India, has conducted vast research on validation of the clinical safety, efficacy of Panchakarma therapy. A number of clinical studies on each preparatory procedure i.e., Snehana (therapeutic oleation) and Swedana (sudation) and main procedures viz., Vamana (Therapeutic emesis), Virechana (therapeutic purgation), Vasti (therapeutic enema), Nasya Karma (nasal administration of medicaments) adopting the classical Ayurvedic notations and contemporary clinical, bio=chemical and pathological parameters at Central Research Institute (Panchakarma), Cheruthuruthy, Kerala, India have proved the safety and effectiveness. |
