Amavata (Rheumatoid Arthritis) is one among the chronic and refractory disease has become a challenge to the detailed description authorities and public. The detailed description concerning aetiology, clinical features and line of management are available in ancient & medicinal classics of Ayurveda. Ayurveda attributes factors such as improper and irregular diet practices ( Viruddha Ahara), impaired gastrointestinal functions (Mandagni, Grahani dosha) as pivotal factors resulting in the formation of bio-toxins(Ama) aetiology of this condition. The unique concept of Ama (biotoxins accumulated due to impaired gastrointestinal function) is the major pathological phenomenon of rheumatoid arthritis and the line of treatment regimens like Langhana (fasting), Deepana (use of carinatives) and external treatments like dry fomentation etc. that alleviate the pathological process.
